This smaller, pocket neighborhood is conveniently located and provides easy access to many desirable Santa Barbara amenities in all directions. Wedged between Las Positas, West Alamar Ave, De la Vina Street, and MacKenzie Park, the area feels like a small, enclosed community. With sidewalks and less traffic, for the most part, this neighborhood is very walkable. The area is a bit hilly - so you will get a nice workout on your morning walks.

Homes in this area are typically on the smaller side, show a lot of character and charm, and are mostly well taken care of. Residents take great pride in their front yards - curb appeal is taken very seriously here. Even though many homes are older, a good amount has undergone extensive remodeling in recent years. This area is sitting on a gentle hill with rolling streets, providing different types of views. In some locations, you may find an ocean and city view. But for the most part, it is all about the mountain views around here.
Shopping is conveniently located along the De la Vina corridor, with Trader Joe's, some coffee shops, restaurants, and smaller businesses. Earl Warren Showgrounds
The Earl Warren Showgrounds is a multi-use community event center used for larger events - like amusement and trade fairs, horse and garden shows, flea markets, and more. It borders Las Positas Rd to the West - right across from the Samarkand neighborhood.

Santa Barbara Golf Club
Samarkand residents enjoy easy access to the Santa Barbara Golf Club which is located across Las Positas Rd to the West. This municipal 18-hole golf course provides fantastic views of the Santa Ynez foothills and the Pacific Ocean. The beloved Mulligan's Cafe and Bar - a local's favorite - is onsite as well.

MacKenzie Park at the Northern end of Samarkand has a fenced playground, two youth baseball fields, and an enclosed half-acre off-leash dog area. The nicely maintained dog run is separated into two areas for smaller dogs (under 20 pounds) and bigger dogs. This is a great place to meet other Santa Barbara dog owners, enjoy playtime with your furry friend or use the area to train your pup. This park is also used for El Mercado Del Norte's festivities and carneval during Fiesta in August.
The upper tier of this park, directly adjacent to the Samarkand neighborhood, houses the lawn bowling greens of the Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club. This lovely facility is a hit with Samarkand residents and can be utilized all year round.
Oak Park - at the South Eastern end of Samarkand - is a large green space with over 800 trees. There are playgrounds, a wading pool for little kids, BBQ grills, picnic benches, restrooms, a wooden dance floor, tennis courts, and horseshoe pits. This park is also the backdrop for multiple cultural festivals with ethnic food and music, like the Greek and French festival.
