The neighborhoods "Rancho San Antonio" and "Park Highlands" are both situated in the foothills of Santa Barbara, right above Cathedral Oaks Road.
Rancho San Antonio Entrance
The Rancho San Antonio neighborhood was mainly built during the 90s and feels very peaceful and private. Homes are mostly lined up along the main streets of Camino Del Retiro and Camino del Rio looping around, including a few smaller side streets. The lots in this area are of larger dimensions with architectural styles predominantly Mediterranean, but also custom Ranch-style and Contemporary.
Homes
Home sizes are generally of substantial square feet compared to many Santa Barbara homes.
Here you will often find big yards with great entertaining spaces, including outdoor kitchens and pools. Homes further up into the community often enjoy panoramic mountain and ocean views. With no through traffic, this neighborhood is very quiet and secluded.
Tucker's Grove Park
Parks
Dividing Rancho San Antonio from Park Highlands you will find the beloved Tucker's Grove Park. This park is a common destination for kids' birthday parties and larger outdoor events. There are ball fields, BBQ grills, picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, and also hiking and horse riding trails starting from here.
On the other side of the park, you can enter Park Highlands from San Marcos Road.
Driving up into these areas, you experience a much drier, sunnier, and generally warmer climate than in many other Santa Barbara locations. Homes here are similar to Rancho San Antonio, with many of them built during the 80s or 90s. Some of the homes have undergone remodeling since, while others remain original.
There are also newly constructed homes in this neighborhood - a rather rare find in Santa Barbara. An example would be a community called "The Boulders". The modern, Mediterranean-style homes feature comfortable floorplans, customizable finishes, and beautiful mountain views.
Many homes in Park Highlands have beautifully landscaped yards, with pools, ponds, built-in BBQs, and more.
Driving further up on San Antonio Creek Road towards the 154, this neighborhood has an almost rural feel with some horse stables, open fields, and beautiful mountain ridge views. Many of the homes up here also enjoy an ocean view in the far distance.
From the top of this neighborhood, you can easily access San Marcos Pass Road (the 154), which connects either back to Santa Barbara or to the beautiful countryside of the Santa Ynez Valley.
Shopping
The closest Shopping for these neighborhoods is the shopping center at the Turnpike Road and Hollister Ave intersection. Here you will find all your essentials, including a supermarket, drugstore, some dining, and more.
Schools
Schools nearby include the highly-rated Mountain View Elementary School, the City College Wake Campus, and San Marcos High School.
