Goleta Neighborhood Information

• What is it like to live in Goleta, CA? •

Overall, Goleta is considered Santa Barbara's slightly more affordable neighbor in regards to house prices and cost of living. However, you get to enjoy the same amazing weather and stunning surroundings. Read some of the top reasons for considering moving to Goleta here.

Top Reasons for Moving to Goleta:

  • Weather and beautiful environment
  • Convenient shopping & employment opportunities
  • Reputable Schools
  • Family oriented neighborhoods and parks
  • Popular Condo and townhouse complexes
  • Multiple beaches & recreational options

Weather and Beautiful Environment

The weather in Goleta is simply amazing. Santa Barbara and surrounding areas enjoy a pretty perfect climate year-round - one of the best parts about living here. With temperatures mostly ranging from 65°-75° with no humidity it feels comfortable and inviting. This type of weather allows for outdoor activities throughout the entire year.

Occasionally it might get a little cooler or hotter than is typical for the area, which is a welcome change once in a while. During May and June, you will most likely get to experience the so-called "May Gray" and "June Gloom" - the local expressions for overcast and foggy weather during the earlier part of the day.

Convenient Shopping & Employment Opportunities

Camino Real Marketplace, Goleta

Compared to Santa Barbara's boutiques and quaint specialty stores on State Street, Goleta offers more commercial shopping options with large stores like Target, Home Depot, Cosco, etc. There are several shopping areas - like Fairview Center, Camino Real Marketplace, and Calle Real Shopping Center - where you find retail stores, groceries, restaurants, and more.
With several larger tech and manufacturing companies, as well as the University of California and Cottage Hospital, Goleta is the employment hub for Santa Barbara County. Some companies located here include:

Deckers Outdoor Corporation

Another convenience is the easy access to the Santa Barbara Airport located in Goleta. It is a small and pleasant airport providing direct flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and more.

Schools in Goleta

Dos Pueblos High School

The Goleta Union Elementary School District has an overall good reputation, with an above-average rating. Schools include Mountain View, Foothill Elementary School, and Kellogg Elementary School. Dos Pueblos High School also has a good reputation and is known for its excellent engineering academy and outstanding girls' water polo program. For more school information and ratings check here.

Neighborhoods and Parks

Goleta Street View

The overall feel in Goleta is suburban. Multiple neighborhoods and smaller subdivisions throughout Goleta offer different amenities and characters. A mix of old-time residents, families, and increasingly more young professionals and entrepreneurs are living in "The Good Land" - as it is sometimes referred to. Neighborhoods around Stow Grove Park and Lake Los Carneros, or the Elwood Mesa and Monarch Butterfly Grove mostly feature single-family homes and are popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Here you will find endless opportunities to enjoy the great weather during long walks along the bluffs, the beaches, or bike rides.

Lake Los Carneros
